The Indonesian Ministry of Transportation’s Directorate General of Sea Transportation, in collaboration with state-owned shipping company PT Pelni, is offering a 50% discount on basic passenger ship fares during the school holiday season.

Director General Muhammad Masyhud announced that the fare discount applies from June 5 to July 31, 2025, covering all Pelni-operated passenger routes across the country.

“This 50% fare discount has been in effect for ticket purchases on all Pelni-operated ships starting June 5, 2025, for departures up to July 31, 2025,” Mashyud said on Wednesday (June 18).

He emphasized that the discount applies nationwide without exceptions, calling it “a form of the state's presence for the people.”

The 50% discount applies only to the base fare and does not include insurance or port access fees.

The initiative is aimed at boosting public economic activity during the school holidays, especially amid lingering economic uncertainty.

According to Masyhud, many families are currently holding back on spending due to financial caution.

“The goal of this fare discount is to stimulate the economy. Right now, people are being very careful with their spending. So with this incentive, we hope to drive more domestic movement and transactions during the holidays,” he explained.

This move is part of the Ministry’s broader effort to improve inter-regional connectivity across Indonesia and encourage more accessible travel.

Masyhud also called on stakeholders in the transportation and logistics sectors to coordinate and support the implementation of the program, ensuring that it is effective and well-targeted.

“The Directorate General will ensure this policy is implemented efficiently and reaches the right targets through full coordination with all relevant stakeholders,” he concluded.
