Lagu ini menjadi rilisan ketiga yang mengawali peluncuran album ketiganya yang sangat dinantikan, A Matter of Time, yang dijadwalkan rilis pada 22 Agustus mendatang lewat label Vingolf Recordings / AWAL.
Dalam Lover Girl, Laufey menghadirkan nuansa melankolis yang menggambarkan kerinduan mendalam kepada sosok yang dicintai.
Ia menyampaikan bahwa salah satu hal paling berat dalam mencintai adalah ketika harus terpisah jarak dengan orang tersebut. “Lagu ini menggambarkan perasaan itu,” ujar Laufey.
